The most renowned Bosnian-Herzegovinian star of today is performing at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall. Božo Vrećo is a lyrical tenor who, with his angelic voice, sings the deepest emotions. His approach is truly cathartic, transversal, and unique, as written by international media such as France’s ARTE, the American New York Times, and Spain’s El Periódico. These media also describe him as an “icon of freedom, an angelic voice that caresses souls and opens hearts.” His popularity and artistic quality are best illustrated by the fact that tickets for his concert in Sarajevo at the end of last year sold out in just seven hours. Vrećo sings about love, longing, and separation—about sorrow, melancholy, and solitude. Every verse Božo sings feels like a confession and a declaration of love, which is where the magic of his concerts lies. He collaborates with distinctive, world-renowned artists, alongside whom he has written new sevdah lyrics that his ever-growing audience simply adores, from Lejlija all the way to Saba. Božo Vrećo is truly distinguished by an extraordinary body of work, as he diligently dedicates himself to music and to the exploration of ballet and opera, as well as to documentary films about sevdalinka, to which he gives his own avant-garde contribution. Naturally, he also studies the mysticism of the Balkans’ indigenous monophonic and polyphonic music. His concerts are a complete Sufi trance, carrying sevdah in its original, fully liberated form. They release all suppressed emotions in people, often bringing tears at concerts, as well as certain supernatural energies that flow from person to person, together forming a wave of exhilaration, love, and catharsis. The duality radiated by this extraordinary artist makes him one of the most significant interpreters of modern kara-sevdah, a genre that also ventures into other musical spheres.
