Over the past few concert seasons Katharina Treutler has become successfully established as one of the most remarkable pianists of her generation, with engagements in Europe, the US, Australia and Asia. She has played with leading orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Katharina Treutler’s discography reflects her interest in a variety of musical styles and genres. February 2015 saw the release of the album Final Symphony with works by Nobuo Uematsu, in which she performed both solo and with the London Symphony Orchestra. Recorded in the Abbey Road Studios in London, it reached the top of the iTunes Classical Charts in over 10 countries. In 2018 came her highly-regarded solo album Beyond with works by Bach, Liszt, Prokofiev, Messiaen and Ligeti. Further recordings include Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and the Trio Album Neotango Episodes (2023). Here famous pieces by the Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla rub shoulders with new works specially commissioned for her ensemble. Alongside her busy schedule as a soloist Katharina Treutler is also a passionate devotee of chamber music.

Born in Erfurt, she received her first piano lessons at the age of seven. After leaving school she studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover with Bernd Goetzke, going on a residential studentship at the Tokyo College of Music. She continued her training in Paris with Jacques Rouvier at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse, where she also studied chamber music with Claire Desert while additionally studying musicology at the Sorbonne. From 2011 to 2013 she studied with Dmitri Bashkirov at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. She completed her soloist diploma with distinction at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg with Eric le Sage.
Katharina Treutler has won numerous first prizes at international competitions. She is a Steinway Artist and resides in Berlin. Since 2016 she has been teaching at the “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig and, since 2023, also at the “Carl Maria von Weber” Hochschule für Musik in Dresden, initially as a guest professor and currently as a substitute professor.
