After 35 years, one of the world’s most influential interdisciplinary artists is returning to Zagreb, where on May 26 next year she will present Republic of Love together with the New York–based jazz group Sexmob.

Laurie Anderson is a writer, director, visual artist, composer, and singer who has been at the forefront of experimental music and performance for decades.

She gained worldwide recognition in the early 1980s with her hit O Superman, and her performances have since become synonymous with innovation combining speech, music, multimedia, and advanced technology.

Her multimedia stage projects, such as United States, Empty Places, Delusion, and The End of the Moon, have achieved cult status, while her films and installations have been presented at major international festivals and museums, from Venice and Toronto to the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum. Laurie was NASA’s first artist-in-residence and is the recipient of numerous international awards, including a Grammy Award, the Stephen Hawking Medal, and the Lifetime Achievement Award of the American Recording Academy.

She has collaborated with musicians and artists such as Brian Eno, Philip Glass, Jean-Michel Jarre, Robert Wilson, and Peter Gabriel, and her works have been performed on the world’s leading stages, in galleries, and at festivals. Her life partner was music legend Lou Reed, with whom she worked on numerous projects until his death in 2013.

In recent years, she has received awards for virtual reality projects created in collaboration with Hsin-Chien Huang and continues her pioneering work at the intersection of art and artificial intelligence.

She arrives at the Lisinski Hall as one of the most important artists of our time – a creator who has been pushing the boundaries of music, performance, and technology for more than forty years, continually (re)defining the very meaning of art.

On May 26, at the Lisinski Hall stage, she will be joined by her longtime collaborators in an expanded lineup, the New York jazz ensemble Sexmob, with whom she will perform the discursive piece Republic of Love, a reflection on the state of art and the world in times of crisis. It is her invitation to dream of a future not built on speed, efficiency, or accumulation, but on new ways of existing and living together.
