Sir ANDRÁS SCHIFF, Piano

Programme: to be announced later

After the unforgettable concert with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in 2019, Sir András Schiff returns to Zagreb again. This will be the first solo recital in Lisinski Hall of this legendary pianist, conductor, lecturer and generally one of the most interesting promoters of classical music in the world today. The highest performance and artistic standards, uncompromising respect for the score as written, one of the largest concert repertoires in the history of pianism, interpretations that combine the intellectual and emotional dimensions of music in the best way – maestro Schiff embodies all these qualities. He is the artist who, for example, started his Bach Cycle in Berlin’s Pierre Boulez Hall on his 70th birthday, on 21 December 2023. Within the cycle, he performed all of Bach's most important and greatest works in seven concerts in 17 days!

However, we will have to be patient to find out about the exact program of the Zagreb concert, and Sir András Schiff explains why: "We pianists are obliged to determine our programs in great detail many months or even years in advance. That's a huge burden. How could you know what you want to play in two years, seven months and four days? It depends on many elements, the acoustics, the instrument, the mood of the day... In my opinion, it is more spontaneous to announce the program on the spot and briefly explain the selected pieces. This is how you create a connection with the audience; we are here together to experience something. There must be mutual trust, we must respect each other. The audience should trust that I will always present only the best pieces, prepared to the best of my ability. In turn, I count on the sensitivity and great wisdom of my audience. With such an approach – and there are also other ideas – we can experience concerts in a new and refreshing way.”
