A music feast for those who love music in ‘blue colour tones’ from the 'West side' interpreted by a world-class piano virtuoso and an orchestra with phenomenal musicians!
Often in life we do not know what we are missing, because there are so many amazingly beautiful things in the world that we do not know at all! But every music lover who has not yet heard of British organist, pianist and conductor Wayne Marshall, has not listened to him play and make music, has undoubtedly missed something magnificent, fascinating, enchanting!  Born to parents originally from Barbados, Marshall began learning music at the age of three, aged five he was already playing the organ in the church in his hometown of Oldham, and at seventeen he enrolled at London's Royal College of Music. A phenomenal organist and pianist, he early discovered his affinity and talent for jazz, musicals and American popular music in general. Today, Wayne Marshall is world-renowned for his now legendary large-scale productions of world-famous musicals and operas by Broadway greats, such as Bernstein and Gershwin or covering the music of Frank Zappa!  His concerts in which he plays the piano and conducts at the same time are impressive, as are his performances of Rhapsody in Blue or arrangements of Duke Ellington’s pieces! But Marshall recently also made his first appearance as conductor with the Berlin Philharmonic, which is a reference in itself! He is coming to the Saturday at Lisinski concert series in a double role: as both pianist and conductor, with a programme that features iconic works, such as Ravel's Alborada del gracioso, Bernstein's masterpiece – the bright and vigorous Suite from the ballet Fancy Free and Gershwin's timeless hits Rhapsody in Blue and Second Rhapsody for Piano and Orchestra. The Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, an excellent orchestra with top musicians and a great tradition, always a welcome guest in Zagreb, will be an 'instrument' in Marshall's hands for a flight to the highest spheres of enchanting music that makes life beautiful, full of sunshine and joy!
