A concert you can't miss - an evening dedicated to the solo songs of German composer Richard Strauss presented with the support of the German embassy in Zagreb.
 
In honor of the 160th anniversary of Strauss’s birth and the 75th anniversary of his death, soprano Marija Vidović will perform selections from several of Strauss’s song cycles, accompanied by Božo Letunić on the piano. Having studied in Stuttgart, where she learned from renowned teachers, Marija now brings the beauty of the German Lied to Zagreb audience.
 
Richard Strauss (1864–1949) was a key figure in German music during the late Romantic and early modernist periods. Known for his distinctive style, Strauss was a child prodigy who rose to fame in his youth thanks to his virtuosic and unique symphonic poems. He later made a lasting impact on opera composing works known for their unparalleled technical brilliance. However, the genre that remained a constant thread throughout his life, and which he helped transform, was the Lied – the German art song. Strauss’s songs are cherished as true gems, capturing a vast emotional spectrum with remarkable diversity in subject matter.
