The concert "The Schumann House” brings together music connected by family ties, friendships and artistic exchanges within one of the most fascinating circles of the European Romantic era. At the heart of the programme are works by Clara and Robert Schumann, alongside music by their close contemporaries and friends, Johannes Brahms and Felix Mendelssohn.
From Brahms’s intimate Trio in A minor for clarinet, cello and piano, through selected songs by Clara Schumann from Jucunde, to Mendelssohn’s work for piano four hands, the programme culminates in Robert Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E-flat major.
These four works, written for different instrumental combinations, are united by the musical circle surrounding the Schumanns and their close contemporaries, revealing different facets of German Romanticism. The concert opens the 18th concert season of the Music Pathways series, performed by an exceptional ensemble of Croatian musicians.
