ACADEMY OF ST. MARTIN IN THE FIELDS
Augustin Hadelich, Violin and  Artistic Direction

Giacomo Puccini: Crisantemi (Chrysanthemums), Elegy for String Quartet, SC 65
Niccolò Paganini: Violin Concerto No. 4 in D minor, MS 60 (arr. Giuseppe Vaccaro)
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Souvenir de Florence, Op. 70

Sir Neville Marriner founded the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the renowned English chamber ensemble, in 1958 and led it for more than half a century.  From its very beginnings, the ensemble has steadfastly followed clear guidelines – outstanding musicianship, inspiring collaborations, an extensive schedule of international tours and studio recordings. It has achieved exceptional results in all these segments. Today, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields is one of the most highly regarded chamber orchestras in the world, and its extensive discography comprises more than five hundred releases. The ensemble performs without a conductor. This time, it will perform exceptionally expressive and emotionally rich works in its original string formation.

Giacomo Puccini’s Chrysanthemums Elegy was composed in memory of a friend; Niccolò Paganini skilfully blends virtuosity and lyricism in his Violin Concerto No. 4 (which the ensemble performs in Giuseppe Vaccaro's arrangement), while Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky turns memories of Florence, which enchanted him, into music with the greatest enthusiasm.

For the past fifteen years, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields has operated under the direction of the famous violinist Joshua Bell, while also collaborating with many distinguished musicians. In the 2026/2027 season, one of their principal guest artists is Augustin Hadelich, an excellent German-American violinist born in Italy, known for his exceptional technique and beautiful tone. Particularly praised are his interpretations of Paganini’s works, in which he combines incredible precision with the musicality of Italian bel canto.
