ORCHESTRE DES CHAMPS ELYSÉES
PHILIPPE HERREWEGHE, Conductor
In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Anton Bruckner’s birth

Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 8 in C minor, WAB 108

Crowned with a number of recognitions and awards and considered one of the greatest conductors of today, Philippe Herreweghe returns to Croatia with his Orchestre des Champs‑Élysées, which he founded in 1991.  Philippe Herreweghe is a tireless promoter of music based on the collaboration between musicology and performing arts.  Ever since the founding of the Collegium Vocale Gent, the ensemble with which he became famous all over the world, Herreweghe has encouraged ever new reading, reflection on and playing of mostly old music. During the past concert season, he conducted performances of Mozart's Requiem and Bach's St. Matthew Passion. But they will offer us something completely new in Zagreb: Bruckner!  Bearing in mind that the Orchestre des Champs‑Élysées is made up of extremely motivated and enthusiastic musicians who play on original instruments, we trust that Bruckner's Eighth Symphony – a vast piece of music that fascinates with its wealth of melodic themes and harmonic structure – will sound really special. It is a unique opportunity not only for the Zagreb audience, but also for an audience from the entire country, and even the region, to hear the highly acclaimed ensemble and conductor and give Anton Bruckner the opportunity to captivate it with his monumental work.

After the concert, the audience will be entertained by The Sick Swing Orchestra in the lobby of the Great Hall.
