One of today’s most versatile musicians, British organist, pianist and conductor Wayne Marshall returns to Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall. In May 2024, he appeared in a dual role – as both pianist and conductor – with a programme that included iconic works by Ravel, Gershwin and Bernstein. This time he is coming as an organ soloist – the instrument that marked the beginnings of his extraordinary musical journey without boundaries.  The Lisinski Hall audience will have the opportunity to experience an artist whose virtuosity and charisma captivate concert stages around the world.

Marshall is known for his extraordinary ability to connect different musical styles – from the classical repertoire to jazz and improvisation – and this breadth will come to the fore in the programme he is bringing to the Zagreb audience. He will open the evening with an improvisation, Intrada, introducing listeners to the world of organ splendour and the freedom of musical expression.

The programme will include works of diverse styles and characters: from the virtuosic toccatas by the North American composers Andrew Ager and George C. Baker, through the blend of Impressionism and Romanticism in Jean Roger-Ducasse’s Pastorale, to Franz Schmidt’s monumental Variations and Fugue on an Original Theme from the Opera Fredigundis, as well as Charles-Marie Widor’s magnificent Symphony No. 6 – one of the most famous pieces of the organ repertoire.

In the spirit of his distinctive artistic personality, Marshall will conclude the concert with an improvisation on popular Croatian musical themes, creating a unique and singular connection between the world-renowned artist and Croatian musical heritage.
This organ recital brings a wealth of sound and colour, virtuosity and inspiration - a musical experience that confirms Wayne Marshall as one of the most exciting figures on today’s music scene.
